Chapter 7: Opening a Portal
How texts are chosen — and why it matters

When we bring a text into a therapeutic space, we are not introducing content.
We are placing something into another person’s inner world—
something that may resonate, disturb, contain, or transform.
For this reason, choosing a text is not a technical decision.
It is a clinical act.

Home Assignment: “Tracing the Life of a Text”
Continue working with the text you chose to bring to class.
Choose a title for this text (different from the original title, one that embeds the core meaning you find in it).
Exploring our own transference to the text:
- What does it remind me of from my own life (a stage in life, a person, a place, an experience)?
- What is the main feeling it evokes in me?
- After working with it - do I identify new layers and new subjective meanings I wasn’t aware of before?
3. With whom might this text “work”? In what context? What might it open, and what might it risk?
Optional Extension (Highly Recommended):
Respond to your text in any way you like:
- Continue it.
- Respond to it.
- Rewrite it.
Submit only a short reflection about the process.
