Chapter 1 – “In a faraway land…”
Indirect dialogue, projective techniques, and meaningful encounters through stories, images, films, and poems.
This chapter draws upon the first axis of the 3-Axis Model presented in The Art of Bibliotherapy: A Model for Using Stories, Poems and Writing in Therapy (Havusha-Feldman & Ivnitsky). The Implicit–Explicit Axis describes a continuum between two modes of therapeutic engagement: one that approaches experience indirectly through symbols, metaphors, stories, and imaginative expression, and another that invites more direct exploration of personal thoughts, feelings, and life experiences.

Home Assignment – The Voice of a Character
Choose a fictional character from a story, play, film, or book—a figure who stays with you or evokes something in you.
Step 1:
Write a monologue in his or her voice, as if she or he is speaking directly to an audience about herself. Try to remain close to her tone, language, and inner world.
Step 2:
Now, gently let something change in her scene. It can be small or unexpected. Do not explain the change. Let it happen inside the story.
Step 3:
Continue the monologue after this moment.
